Modest Girl of The Week: Julie B

So we will be featuring a Modest Girl every so often. Today the Lovely one an only Julie has been nominated to be our Modest Girl! And here are some fun facts about  her:

Name: Julie B.

Age: 22

Dressing Modestly since: Since birth lol but really I began to be more aware of Modesty and its importance at about age 16

Ministries: I sing in the church band & I am TYG Youth Leader

Anything you want to say about modesty: I have to say I love it! I think it’s beautiful to be modest. People respect who you are and at the very same time, you as a person are confident. I believe it’s not that hard, like anything in life, you have to decide, "I want to change this about my life" and then start working at it. Sure, the first couple times it requires some thought on how to accomplish it or how to stay on track, but after awhile it becomes nature. Like healthy eating or exercising (since that’s so popular in today’s culture). So in essence modesty is beautiful, empowering, makes you stand out and totally do-able! :)

Issues of Cleavage: Modest Options

Have you ever had this problem before? You find a beautiful top but it is a very low cut!??!?! Or you find a high cut shirt but when you bend down its wide and opens up for the “B’s” to be seen?! I can give you some tips on how to prevent this in a modest inexpensive way.

Have you ever heard of Tube Tops? Of course you have! They are everywhere and are used in an immodest way but we can use them to help us stay modest (aha! fight back!). I like them because they are tight fitting and help our “friends” stay in place. They are available in a variety of colours and can be found at a lot of shopping centres. My advice would be to pin them to your bra straps to prevent them from going down and thus, defeating the purpose of wearing them. They look great under tops! I think the best ones to buy are the ¾ size ones because that way you have material to pull up to pin into place. I think tube tops look best with V-cut blouses. For blouses with an oval cut, maybe tank tops are the more modest option.

Now if tube tops are not for you, there is the option of tank tops. Which pretty much every girl has a few of those. In my opinion, the essential colours of tank tops to have are black, white, brown and grey! Those colours or shades, tend to match with everything you have. I also pin the tank tops to my bra straps to avoid them from sneaking down and me not noticing.

As to where to position the tops for best modesty, I tend to pin four fingers from my collar bone. You could also do the test of bending down to see if anything is shown.

Hope these tips are helpful. This is what has worked for me! If you have any suggestions, drop me a comment, I’d love hear them!

What Does Our King Desire?

Today I want to talk a little bit about Esther. Her story has always stood out for me since I was a little girl. I remember as a girl thinking that I wanted to be like Esther. Our baby girl’s middle name is Esther. I pray that one day she also dreams and pursues to have the same passion that Esther had to serve God. Without further ado, I would like to focus on this scripture.

Then thus came every maiden unto the king; whatsoever she desired was given her to go with her out of the house of the women unto the king's house….Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in unto the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king's chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. And Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her…..And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti. Esther 2:12-17

The time had come, for when the king of Persia was to take a wife to be Queen. All of the Maidens prepared themselves for a year in order to present themselves before the King. The process of purification before coming before the King was quite the process and is a valuable lesson in of itself, however today I want to focus on Esther's prudence.

The bible tells us that when it was time for the maidens to come before the king, anything that she desired out of the house of the women was given to her to present herself before the king with those items. With further study of scripture and with the aid of different translations we can see that the items that verse 13 speaks of refers to clothing and jewellery. The NLT translates that verse as follows “When it was time for her to go to the king’s palace, she was given her choice of whatever clothing or jewelry she wanted to take from the harem”. So we understand that the maidens got to choose the clothing and jewellery they would wear to present themselves before the king. It is apparent that the Persian culture was very much into jewelry and all that Jazz, so it is not wrong to assume that the maidens really outdid themselves with all of these things to present themselves in a way they thought would please the king.

Then it was Esther’s turn and this is where I want to focus. The scripture shows us that when it was Esther’s turn to present herself before the king, she consulted with Hegai the King’s chamberlain, as to what she should wear to please the King. Because of this action, her humbleness and willingness to please the king, she obtained favour in the sight of all that looked upon her and the king ended up choosing her as queen.

I once read that Hegai – the King’s chamberlain, could be thought as a symbolism of God’s word. Hegai, knew the king and knew what the king desired in a women, so when Esther looked for his counsel, he pointed her in the right direction so that she could become Queen, because he KNEW THE KING. If we reflect on Esther’s story, we can see that she is an amazing example to follow. Like her, we should always seek the counsel of God’s word (Hegai) to understand God’s character and what it is that He desires of us. In all aspect of our lives, including Clothing and Jewellery. The more we consult with God’s word the more we will understand what it is that pleases him and what doesn’t please him. Esther didn’t want any extras, she only wanted to present herself before the King in the manner that HE DESIRED! She was wise and knew that Hegai would know exactly what the king wanted to see in a beautiful young maiden. Maybe all that stuff available for her use, was attractive and beautiful in her eyes, as is was to all the maidens, after all she was young! However, she made the decision to neglect her desire and decided to only wear what pleased the King.

With this, I would like to encourage all of us to be like Esther, prudent and consult with God’s word to see how it is that He would like us to dress, act and speak in order to, one day, be crowned too! Even in matters as dress and adornments, His word speaks to us! If you haven’t yet been convicted on these issues, consult his word, it’s full of answers. Capture the King’s heart by doing what He pleases of us. If, like Esther, we follow God’s word, one day our King of Kings will put a crown on OUR head. No greater reward than that!

Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown.” Revelation 3:11

Modest Convention Wear

Hello Ladies! I hope you all had a great weekend. I definitely did. Feeling very blessed.

So today I wanted to share with you some pictures of outfits a few of the girl’s wore to our organization’s convention last weekend. I wish I had better pictures to really give these outfits justice, but these will have to do. I hope you like. Modest, unique and stylish!

Aren’t these girls lovely? Melissa, wearing the light blue/mint ruffle dress, sewed that up all by her lonesome. I thought she looked cute. Karen and Wendy (from the right to left) are wearing dresses as long shirts. And Julie, in the aqua blue dress, you can’t really see her, but It’s one of my favourites that she owns, a very pretty dress on her (which she got at Old Navy).

This is Johanna, I love this outfit on her. Very stylish. If I'm not mistaken the skirt is from Old Navy.

This is Jenny, Jenny might not be happy with this picture, but it’s the only one I could find of her in that skirt! (Forgive me Jenny). But I really loved that skirt, It’s way more beautiful in person. It’s rare to find skirts like these and she wore it quite well. The store where she got it from is in Toronto and they sell a wide array of beautiful long skirts, but they are very pricey! However, on a good day, you can score a deal on the sales rack. I once bought a very beautiful skirt from there. It cost me $80.00. Wow, I KNOW shame on me. But it was beautiful. Sadly it doesn’t fit anymore. LOL….

And last but not least, this is what yours truly wore on Saturday Night. I happen to really like this outfit, it was comfy and modest. I bought the shawl at winners (made the flowers!), the ruffle blouse inside, I bought once at a trip to Montreal and my new favourite blue pencil skirt, I got it made.

The End.

A Small Book in a Big God’s Hands

Today’s post was going to refer to Ester! I love Ester’s story of the Bible. However, I received some news last night and I wanted to share it in this forum. Ester’s story will be posted next week.

Friends, I am deeply humbled and amazed. The Lord has been too good to this undeserving being.

Last year we travelled to Honduras, to visit my husband’s relatives. During our visit, we visited a very small church in the city of Comayagua. The church was located in a very poor and dangerous neighbourhood and was the only church of Apostolic faith in the whole city. The Pastors are very humble people and of a very humble livelihood. During our visit, we understood that one of the things they lacked, because there were just not enough funds for it, was apostolic literature. The only thing they had was a binder copy of book, which looked like it had been used, over and over again! They expressed their desire to obtain literature that spoke about our apostolic beliefs. The Pastor’s wife and I specifically spoke about modesty and outward holiness and how she desired to learn more and strongly believed in its importance. My husband mentioned to her that I wrote a book about modesty and she requested a copy. To make the story short, we left there very humbled by the experience and made the commitment to keep in touch with them to give them encouragement and to send them literature. When we returned home, within a month and with the help of donations made by our customers at Apostolic Truth Books (a small library we run), we were able to send them 6 books, all of apostolic faith, including the book I wrote in Spanish, entitled “Walking in Modesty”.

Shortly after they received the books, they called us to say how much of a blessing they were to them and we were content to have been able to contribute in a small part to their ministry. We have kept in contact with them, ever so often since then but hadn’t heard from them in a few months, until last night.

The phone rang at 11:30pm at night! We were just about to doze off and were a bit freaked out! Usually when you get calls at the middle of the night, it’s never good news! But it was the dear Pastor Manuel from Honduras. He just wanted to let us know that a year later, they had now moved into the city, a better location where they will be able to reach more souls WITH this JESUS message of truth. Praise God. But he also wanted to let us know, that the book that I wrote has been a tremendous blessing for them and that they made a whole lot of copies to use at different conferences that they organized. They recently did a women’s conference with all of the ladies from the churches in Honduras just based on my book alone! The Pastor also told us that the missionary to Honduras made copies for use in the new churches which will be opening in the country. The other day, I noticed on the statistics page that my blog was being read in Honduras, using google translate, I was wondering how people came across my blog all the way down there, but now I understand!

I feel so humbled to know that the booked has blessed and convicted so many ladies on this topic of Modesty. Who knew 1 person (with God) could actually make a world of difference, one person at a time. I mean, I know we always say, with God everything is possible, but sometimes we believe that for everyone else, except ourselves. As I write this I am tearing, the Lord, once more has amazed me. I am so unworthy to be vessel which he has used. Frankly, I never even thought the book was that amazing! I always felt I could have done it much better, but God does amazing things.

With all of this I want to give Glory to God, He is the one who is in control of everything, He is the one who opens doors, He is the one who makes us able to do anything. When I wrote the book, I never ever, ever thought, it would go such a long way. The most I thought was that it would be a help for the girls at the church at which we minister at. But this verse has been resounding in my head “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55: 9. The Lords plans for our lives are much higher than what we may believe, all we have to do, is do things with love and humbleness and he will take care of the rest. I want to encourage you my dear reader to believe that with all your heart. If the Lord has placed a passion in your heart to do anything for the edification of His kingdom, to bring blessing, to make this truth know in different ways, as small as that idea may be, go ahead, get up and do it! You never know how far it will go, you never know how many people, the Lord will allow you to bless.

Receiving this news was the confirmation I need to start another project, it’s like God was telling me, I agree with what you’re doing, go ahead, I will prosper it. I will share more on that with you in the coming weeks!

I hope this post has been an encouragement to you, to do more for the Lord. The Lord has put in us all a passion and burden for something in his kingdom, act upon that burden and you will see that the will of God always is prospered in your life. Let’s make a difference in this world, together, one person at a time, we can reach our world, with the Message of truth of the One true God.
